Fantastic Fusion

posted by Dzeni at

Whilst exploring fractals is a worthwhile pursuit, using fractals as an artistic base / background has been a passion of mine for some time. Doing this allows for the creation of some truly unique pieces.

The power of fractals and silhouettes is that both require the viewer to fill in the missing bits and construct meaning from the image. The advantage of doing this is that each viewer will "see" a piece in a unique way.

Site problems

posted by Keith at

It looks like the forum is down. Sorry about that. I have had problems all week with my personal site as well. It is hosted on the same server. I'll see what I can do with the forum...

The Cure for Apophysis "Burn Out"

posted by Dzeni at

Every six months or so, I find that my Apo images start look rather boring. That's when its time to switch to Tierazon for a bit. Tierazon works in a totally different way to Apo, and thus it produces very different images. This is a good thing.

One of Tierazon's strongest features is the ability to create fractals with very strong colours. I also love the fact that one can program in one's own equations very easily. Did I mention that Tierazon is also much, much easier to learn than Apo? Its free too and whilst the download page is not very inspiring, the actual program is great.

Here's one of my favourite Tierazon pieces:

Daisy Chain

*This one is so old, it has a border around it. Sorry! I used to think if you framed it, it was art. Then I realised that frames were generally a bad idea.

And here is a piece created this afternoon.

Some recycling

posted by Rykk at

Dzeni brought up the topic of recycling - or tweaking - one's past works and I thought I'd post a couple of examples of just how different something can turn out either over the course of a long time between periods of working with it or simply from a zoom...

So this piece...(sorry about the watermark - I've sold this one in limited ed and need to protect the buyer as much as I can from image theft to preserve their expectation/right of some bit of exclusivity...)

Venezia

over time became this one...(note the oval at bottom and the one on the left in the new one)

Homework

And this one here:

Became this VERY different one when I zoomed an interesting arm of the spiral and something piqued my imagination...

Heavy Metal 2

Anybody else have some cool examples of tweaking themselves?

Recycled Ideas / Art

posted by Dzeni at

Does anyone else out there occasionally recycle either concepts or params that they have used in the past? If you do recycle, does your audience notice and do they like it when old ideas are revisited?

Below are some images which have elements that have been "recycled"

Bare Foot Weave

The footprints are not new, they appeared a while ago in this image:

Compass Revisited

The two images below share a similar woven design generated from the same set of params:

Ship's Wheel

and

Flower Bag

Art generated with computers is really easy to recycle. The challenge here is to somehow incorporate a fresh perspective when resurrecting older work.

These images either have, or will feature on my personal blog in due course.
