Even before UF5 became available, I had started to meld fractal art and some non-fractal or natural fractal components into some images. I posted a few of these at deviantart and they were very well-received until a certain small group of jerks forced dA to remove them from the fractal gallery, citing "rules" that said an image was only a fractal if it was COMPLETELY made with a fractal program.

I have sold many copies of a couple of those images and this past weekend, I saw some fractals that were merged in with flower pictures at an art show. The artist told me that he had tried this after seeing my work at a previous show, and liked them enough to put them in his booth (of a totally different kind of art). Although his fractals were primitive, the overall effect was quite nice.

I think with the new UF5 capabilities, this is one very new and very important direction for fractal art. "Purity" of the fractal aspect is no longer a factor, and this opens up immense new possibilities for all of us.

Now that UF allows import of images, even the "fractal police of dA" have no grounds for their "purity control" any longer. I left dA rather than associate with such a community as them, but I expect to be posting some such art on Rendo in the fairly near future.

We want fractal art to become accepted as mainstream in the art world, don't we? Now it's time to create art that meets the criteria for excellent art and stop worrying about artificial concepts such as fractal purity.

With no reflection on those writing new code, I believe this is much more important than what new fractal program or formula is available. How we use combinations of programs, even photography and non-fractal types of art software, to create beautiful art is the new and unusual direction!
