Homage to Escher
posted by Anu at 7:01 PMThe following images are part of my series Homage to M.C.Escher.
He would have been amazed at the fractal generating programs like Apophysis.
You can see more here and here.

Yes, I know what you mean about some people who are unable to connect with fractal art. I have a good friend, she's an art director in the film industry, she is an image researcher for publishing houses and she comes from a family of artists & architects. She says fractal art all looks the same. I must say I was very surprised.
So I said some people say that white people all look the same, or that orientals all look the same, or black people all look the same......and so on....it's a matter of exposure to the subject matter. I also think it has a lot to do with personal taste and brain configuration.
I love the mathematics of fractals myself. The endless diversity I find every time I start creating with Apophysis. Fractal art has brought a new level of happiness into my life.
I am so pleased to be able to share it and enjoy appreciating the works of others.
Especially the work of contributors on this site.

These are great! Thanks for sharing the link to the method. Am off to investigate :)
I have said that a few times myself, especially about Apophysis fractals. I find it to be quite a challenge to come up with something unusual with Apophysis. I used to think that using Apophysis was easy, but I don't anymore. When it first came out it was fascinating to tweak the triangles and see how the fuzzy blobs took shape. After a few years and hundreds of people making thousands of fuzzy blobs, they all started looking the same to me. To come up with something unusual now you have to have a good understanding of everything about Apophysis, and it helps to know how to make scripts. Who knows what plugins do. I don't have a good understanding of any of that.
Don't take this the wrong way. I have had a love/hate relationship with Apophysis for a long time.
Coming up with something unusual isn't just an Apophysis problem. It's a challenge for any fractal tool, so it's no surprise to me when someone outside of the fractal world says that all fractals look the same.
Outsiders are looking at the final product. They don't appreciate what it takes to build what we build. We can spend hours, even days building an image. When an outsider compares that image side by side with maybe a randomly generated image, they might like the random one more. They're not interested in variations, formulas, transformations, hacks, the latest software version, scripts or anything that gets us excited. They only know what they see in front of them and what they feel when they look at it.
Thanks for posting here.
